The Centre for Mathematical Sciences is currently undergoing a refurbishment of its offices, common areas, meeting rooms and lecture theatres - in fact the whole place is getting a refresh.  This huge project was started in November 2023 and goes all the way through to March 2026 and everyone will be impacted and will benefit from what is going on.

What is happening during the refurb?

The main part of the project involves an electrical upgrade of the light fittings throughout the site to LEDs.  The lighting in offices will be on PIR settings so both of these upgrades will ensure we are being more ecological with our electricity usage.  The woollen carpets throughout the buildings are being replaced with floor tiles allowing easy replacement when necessary and all the painted surfaces are getting a fresh coat of paint.  Also you will notice that the kitchens in the Common Rooms are being completely renewed and Pavilions D & G have had dishwashers installed to be used by Facilities for events.

How long will it take?

Each pavilion floor is taking about 3.5 weeks from start to finish. 

What has been done so far?

Pavilions C, D, E, F and G have been completed, top to bottom - new carpet and lighting throughout and all walls repainted.  New kitchens have also been installed in the Common Rooms. 

MR1, MR4, MR5, MR12, MR14 and MR15 have also benefitted from a repaint, new lighting and new flooring.

The machine room and surrounding rooms have had various upgrades (floor repairs/painting/lighting upgrade) and the Lab under the Central Core has has some upgrades as well.

What is currently being done?

We are currently in the middle of Pavilion B being done - all is going well and to schedule all floors planned to finish by 22 September 2025

How will it affect you

• You will be notified, by email, a few weeks before the contractors start in your pavilion. 
• If you are an office resident you will receive a "moving pack".  This will confirm the moving out date - this is the date that you will actually have to vacate your office by.  You will be expected to pack all your belongings in your office into plastic packing boxes which will be supplied by Maintenance. The Moving Pack will give you all the information you need to help you pack your office and give you a moving back date.

PAVILION B DETAILS - Pavilion B is currently underway and the schedule is below.  As this is a larger building each floor is being split in half (North & South - north being the car park side)  Each floor will be completed before moving onto the next floor.  

Dates may change slightly and residents will be notified as soon as possible.
